About ChainedVase

CBR 8
CBR 9

I spend most of my waking hours reading and re-reading picture books to my 2 demanding Squishies, about which I have strong opinions (both the books and the Squishies). I hope to actually read some grown up books this year, but I probably won't feel as passionately about them as I do the children's books, to be fair.

Ending as I began..

December 28, 2016 by ChainedVase 4 Comments

I committed to a half-Cannonball, so this is me accomplishing a goal! I began as I intend to finish, with a book by my all-time favourite author, Maurice Sendak. My squishies are legendary lovers of books. I have bought and shared many many precious books with them, but this one, I admit, I have hoarded in my bedroom, away from their often-sticky fingers. So now it is a special book that the Littlest Squishie loves to look at when ever she is allowed to invade […]

Anyone can learn to draw a LION!!

December 21, 2016 by ChainedVase 5 Comments

(This is a review of a book series but I’ll count it as one review. I highly recommend any of these books.) Sometime last year on a Pajiba comment thread, I was reminded of Ed Emberley’s drawing books. I knew I had one of his books as a kid; I could so clearly see the cover in my mind’s eye (pictured above). I know that I used the book to learn to draw, because at the age of about 7-8, I had drawn a […]

This book saved my family.

This book adorably depicts how varied and different all families can be, through description and hilarious pictures of animal families. Each page is a family portrait with the caption “Some children have… siblings; two dads; one mom; pets; step parents; half-siblings, etc. ” The families are all animals. The step family is a pig dad and wolf mom! The adopted family is a sheep couple with their adopted wolf babies! Its wonderful and funny and sweet. When I fist moved back to Canada almost 4 […]

Child Power!

December 4, 2016 by ChainedVase Leave a Comment

Jacob Two-Two is the youngest child in his family. He has two older brothers and two older sisters. He is two plus two plus two years old. Unlike his older siblings, there are many things that Jacob can not do, like ride a two wheel bike, run errands for his parents, or cross the street alone. Because he was the smallest and youngest in his large and boisterous family, Jacob developed the habit of saying everything two times, since no one ever listened the first […]
