Seriously, Araña is a way better name than Spider-Girl.

This was not what I was expecting at all, and I really, really liked it! Each volume in this series has been different, so you really don’t need to read them in any particular order, but this one in particular stands on its own. It’s told from the POV of Spider-Girl, Anya Corazon (who wanted her superhero name to be Araña, but no one could pronounce it properly). It could have ended up cutesy, what with the whole point of the story being that Anya […]

Guys, I waited sooooo long to read this. I originally put it on hold at my library SIX MONTHS AGO. It was “on order” for five of those months. I waited so patiently. And then one day I got an email from my library informing me my hold had been canceled, because they couldn’t find a copy of the book to buy for the library’s collection. BOOOOOO. Hisssssss. So I ordered it through interlibrary loan and waited another month. And then it arrived! There was […]

Kelly Sue DeConnick takes over the run of this series from Brian Michael Bendis, and it is already so much better. There are actually three stories in this volume, the first is the title, wherein Bruce Banner and Tony Stark make a bet over who can find and rescue a fellow scientist first. It’s by turns silly and funny and tragic and scary. It feels like the Avengers. I also like the art in this one much better than in volume one. The other Avengers, […]

Overstuffed and implausible, but still a fun read.

See, this is what happens when you read comics. Reading one inevitably leads to you reading another, and then another, and then oh you have to read this other one to understand that one, and oh then that one because it introduces these characters, and then oh that one because it was the start of the run, and blah blah blah, somehow you end up ordering seven new trade paperbacks in one afternoon, and then your library won’t let you order anymore. This is how […]
