This is effectively one review for two books because really, it should be one book, not two. Holly Black’s The Coldest Girl in Cold Town was the first audiobook that ever held my attention. No fever here, just a low grade fizzle
This book was not what I expected, and I didn’t really enjoy it. I have no issue with reading about fairies, or vampires, or other mythical beings but this book didn’t do it for me and I blame it all on the heroine (who narrates this tale). Ben Aaronovitch did a really smart thing with Foxglove Summer, which was to de-escalate, take it down a few notches, and bring us back to basics.
