DC Super Hero Girls Past Times At Super Hero High by Shea Fontana

Kid-friendly take on DC’s finest

September 26, 2017 by J Leave a Comment

I enjoy the DC Super Hero Girls series. It’s a fun entry point for younger readers ready to move up to chapter books, populated with friendly versions of popular superhero characters. My daughter (8) is not really a reader, but she gets very excited about these books. The bad guys aren’t terribly scary, which works well for my sensitive kiddo. The gang takes a field trip to the Jurassic period to learn about dinosaurs. The kids get the full dinosaurs experience: chased by a Tyrannosaurus […]

Great Harley and Ivy Stories, Non-Bus Friendly Art

August 17, 2017 by Halbs Leave a Comment

Harley and Ivy is a followup to Dini and Timm’s Mad Love, a Harley Quinn-centric collection I gave a hearty five stars to only a month ago. While Mad Love was about Harley and Joker, this book follows the hijinks of two of Batman’s more famous villains.  The main story in this collection is a fun around-the-world adventure in which Harley and Ivy cause trouble in Gotham, traipse through an exotic rain forest, and make their debuts in Hollywood. The varied settings provide opportunities for a […]

Growing up, Batman was my guy thanks to Batman: The Animated Series. I loved the look and the mood of the show. Two guys largely responsible for that landmark show are writer Paul Dini and illustrator Bruce Timm. The third member of that B:TAS trinity is voice director Andrea Romano, who gave us our definitive Batman – Kevin Conroy. The success of the animated show translated well back into comics, many of which have been collected and reviewed by me in The Batman Adventures.  Dini […]

“It’s ok, I’ve got a really big hammer!”

December 21, 2015 by TylerDFC Leave a Comment

The total reboot of DC Comics, called the New 52, has produced some solid hits with Birds of Prey, Batwoman, and Catwoman. All 3 titles feature strong female protagonists that are multifaceted and complex. One of the odder additions was a new line called Suicide Squad. This title brings together some of Batman’s more dangerous foes headlining them as the protagonists. It’s a clever concept. The idea is that many of the super villains Batman or others have captured over the years have skills that […]
