Good news everyone! Oscar Wilde’s reputation is still well deserved!

February 3, 2018 by yesknopemaybe 1 Comment

I always feel weird reviewing classics. It’s like, what am I going to say about Oscar Wilde that hasn’t already been said? Surprise, surprise, Oscar Wilde’s work is still perfect. Surprise, surprise, Oscar Wilde was super witty and reading his work is a complete joy. Surprise, surprise, Wilde’s life ended in tragedy and I still wonder what other magnificent works we could have had from him if it hadn’t been for the awful societal prejudice of his time. On the other hand, I’m 100% positive I missed things, and the cleverness of this play almost entirely went over my head. All I could think of to […]

Or, How Not to Climb A Mountain

As someone who has paged through the expedition diaries of more than one Victorian explorer, I found a lot to like about The Ascent of Rum Doodle, a satire of those very types of people and their writing. But even if you haven’t has the pleasure of reading much in that genre, you may still find something to like within. Led by Binder, a man desperate to be the type of leader he’s read about but lacking any insight into himself and others and trying […]
