Curse of the Spellmans by Lisa Lutz

July 3, 2014 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

This weekend, I finished the second and third of Lisa Lutz’s Spellman Files books, and I’m mostly finished with the fourth. Yes, I was on a road trip and had lots of time for reading, but also, they are quick reads. This is not a bad thing however — The Spellman Files are a lot of fun and keep you interested enough to flip those pages as fast as you can.

In Curse of the Spellmans, we join Izzy Spellman once again as she fumbles her way through life and the various stumbling blocks represented by her family/co-workers and friends. If you haven’t read the first book, you could still pick this up no problem, but they’re probably best to read in order.

This particular book focuses on Izzy’s obsession with her next door neighbor; an obsession that eventually leads to a restraining order and a few arrests. Like the first book (and the third, and the fourth), the reader is given a chapter or two that takes place halfway through the case, then backed up to the beginning and told the whole story. Cheeky footnotes and snarky family members litter the book, making it quite a bit of fun.

Lutz always throws in a turn or two that I wouldn’t have expected, and it’s fun to guess the results of the case.

I’m also totally wrapped up in my OTP, Izzy Spellman + Henry Stone 4EVA!

“I’m staying,” Henry said, annoyed.
“Why?”
“Because, if I leave, it would be like abandoning two mentally challenged people in a nuclear waste dump.”

See? They’re made for each other.
