Yep, the Spellmans are back. This time, wild child Izzy Spellman is making an attempt to grow up a big and take over the family business. She’s got a few cases floating at once: trying to dig up dirt on Rich Harkey, her family’s arch nemesis; uncovering the truth behind the disappearance of a valet by sneaking her actor friend into the role; plus, her mother is blackmailing her to get her to date lawyers (as mothers do).
Honestly, I’ve read six Spellman books in less than two months and they start to run together after a while. They’re fun; I like detective novels that throw a whole bunch of threads into the air at the beginning and have it all sew nicely together in the end. Izzy grows a little, book by book, and her family dynamic shifts in a way that makes you feel like they’ve changed (but not too much).
A fun addition to the series. I like Conner (ex #12)’s accent. And Izzy and Henry finally hook up.
“We knew we were doomed. The kiss was a warm acceptance of years of bickering, years of me consuming foods that I found barely edible and Henry tidying up after someone who already thought she had tidied up. When I kissed Henry I wasn’t imagining Ex-boyfriend #13; I was picturing Husband #1.”
Ah, romance.
