#11 Mediocre teen dystopian blah I get bored again already

December 5, 2014 by Beth Ellen Leave a Comment

images-4 I found out about this series thanks to CBRV I believe, and finally got around to reading the first one now. It’s the start to yet another dystopian teen romance drama etc of monumentally generic proportions.

It’s the story of Aria and Peregrine, a dweller and an outsider respectively, who must join forces and win the day. It was incredibly mediocre. I listened to it as an audiobook from the library, and I can happily say I’m very pleased I didn’t spend any money on it. I ended up about half way through speeding up the recording so it sounded like a hyperactive chipmunk. By that point I’d committed over 5 hours. I was finishing the darn thing.

It hit every basic trope out there of the teen fantasy dystopian variety. Boy and girl from different worlds? Check. Boy initially saves girl’s life, but she still hates him because he’s “different” and vice versa? Check. Boy continually saves girls life and she still hates him for half the book? Check. Inexplicably everyone stops hating each other at the same moment and it all turns to feelings and love? Check. Does him “imprint” upon her? Obviously. Is this a trilogy? Of course!

Suffice it to say, I will not be reading the next two. Trying to work on not being a completist in everything when it’s not a great story. So hard!
