“I was waiting for someone that would sweep me off my feet and would be swept up by me in equal parts.”

June 20, 2016 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

I’ve read several books by Taylor Jenkins Reid this year. I’ve found that while they tend to be a far cry from groundbreaking, she can be relied upon to create decent characters (who usually have bad-ass best friends — Reid writes great sidekicks and I loved the BFF in this one) and stories that are enjoyable, if not memorable.

“This apartment is acting like nothing has changed. Everything has changed. I tell the walls he’s gone.”

Forever, Interrupted starts when newlywed Elsie Porter Ross loses her new (and I mean brand-new — 10 days into their marriage) husband to a freak bicycling accident. The rest of the novel consists of her picking up the pieces, with the help of her awesome best friend, and eventually, her mother-in-law (their relationship is…complicated). She meets a new man, makes some new friends, and learns a lot about herself in the process (I promise it’s not as gag-worthy as it sounds).

It’s a cute story. Elise’s easy to like, and her job as a librarian allows for some comedy as patrons come in. And her eventual new romance works well. Like I said, nothing ground breaking, but it makes for a good distraction over the course of a night or two. And Reid does have a nice, easy way with words.
