I read book 1 of this series on vacation, so book 2 is giving me beach flashbacks. It’s so not about the beach.

Extinction Edge
OK! This book is all about the super scary Variants. Good news / bad news… When Dr. Kate Lovato tried to “save the human race” from the hemorrhagic virus with a bioweapon she designed in book 1, it killed billions of people. That’s actually the good news. They all had this terrible Ebola-esque zombie hemorrhagic fever. So they really needed to be killed. The bad new is that 10% of the people hit with Dr. Kate’s bioweapon survived. You’d think this was the good new, but you’d be wrong. They “survived” in the sense that they turned into deadly killing machines nicknamed Variants. They basically evolved into killing, hunting, and eating machines. In book 2, they’re systematically killing off the remaining people who didn’t die from the hemorrhagic virus or become Variants. Well, they’re actually storing them in the sewers for food, but that’s basically killing them eventually.

Everyone (who we care about / know about in this story) is safe on Plum Island (Naval?) base. There’s a large-ish (I say ish due to the number of people who died, it’s large in percentage to the number of people there) military contingent on the island. They’re protection and order for the civilians.

Team Ghost (or what’s left of it after the first book) goes to Fort Bragg to rescue some more military guys, and some of Team Ghost’s family members. Our intrepid hero gets hurt, but it doesn’t stop him. The military tries to “take back” New York city, and you can imagine how that all goes. I can’t wait for book 3, and since I upgraded myself to Kindle Unlimited, I don’t have to!!!

I love to read. I'm usually reading at least 3 books at a time. They're not all good... some are really bad. I have trouble not finishing books though. Now CBR has doubled down on that trouble, because I want to get credit for reading the bad ones too! View kfishgirl's reviews»
