“I was a smart-ass, born and raised. This had been my curse and would continue to be so.”

September 13, 2016 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

I have my Goodreads goal set at 260 for the year, and it says that I’m currently 4 books ahead of my goal. Unfortunately, I’m 7 books behind in my reviews. So please excuse me if the next few are short and sweet!

I would also like to apologize to David Sedaris, since it took me until he mentioned his Greek grandmother in chapter 2 to realize that this wasn’t an Augusten Burroughs book. I mean, it says David Sedaris on the cover. But I guess that wasn’t enough of a clue for me. Shows you how much Augusten Burroughs I read though since I thought, “He doesn’t have a Greek grandmother!”

Moving on to the review!

“You have how many children in your family?” the teacher would ask. “I’m guessing you must be Catholic, am I right?”

Naked is a collection of essays written by a very funny man with OCD and a large, insane family (can you forgive me for my confusion?). Sedaris talks about his childhood, his years in college and some of his more recent times. It’s hysterical and sad, especially since he doesn’t try even a little to pretty up his own shortcomings. His stories about his parents are particularly heartbreaking. It’s a very well-written memoir, and definitely makes me want to seek out more of his work, beyond the other few I’ve read.
