And a being of horror came forth to my view

May 5, 2017 by melanir Leave a Comment

I am now completely caught up on this series and I have pre-ordered book 5. I state again, I don’t think these are amazing books but they’re light, fluffy, and fun to read.

This book explores more of the world of the Fae as Alex is caught up in Winter Court political intrigues. She is asked to investigate the death of one of the Winter Queen’s handmaidens. In the process, she discovers the dangerous connection of that death to a new street drug in the human realm. She struggles with her two romances and there’s a great scene that articulates why BOTH of them are just not good for her. Seriously, she needs to look into why she is drawn to such unavailable men. I know we’re probably supposed to find the obstacles to her romances tragic, horrible, and romantic, but I just get aggravated. Neither of those men are good for her, even though I’m still rooting for Falin (his obstacle is waaaaaay easier to overcome), and while they both have her best interests at heart they have obligations that prevent them from really being in her life the way a romantic partner should be. However, aside from the love triangle stuff we also get more from her friends, with a wedding, and her family (slowly, oh so slowly revealing the long game of her father is driving me nuts).

It’s kind of weird, I know a lot of stuff happens in the book, but I’m honestly having a hard time articulating exactly what happens beyond ‘fae stuff’ or ‘cop stuff’. Partly because I don’t want to spoil the previous books, this is definitely a series that builds on each previous novel, and partly because it was a pretty light book.

I’m enjoying this series and while I’m not biting my nails in anticipation for the next one I am excited for it.

I like books, but I'm SUPER picky about them. To clarify- a three star rating means that I liked the book and found nothing objectionable in it. As 3 is the average between 1 and 5 this means the book is an average read, perfectly competent but not outstanding. View melanir's reviews»
