May stat round-up!

June 6, 2017 by ingres77 17 Comments

I’ve tallied the yearly totals for most users going back to CBR3, and (assuming their review counts are accurate), there are more than 20,134 reviews since 2011. The database currently has over 14,000 reviews, so I’m about 73% of the way complete. That makes me feel better.

On with the stats!

May stats:
280 reviews (May 2016 saw 275 reviews)
Average rating: 3.64 stars (May: 3.69)
Most popular book: Life Moves Pretty Fast (Hadley Freeman) and The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli (4 reviews, 2.75 and 3.25 average, respectfully)
Most popular author: CS Harris (6 reviews, 4.00 average)
Most reviews: vel veeter (congratulations on 39 reviews!)

Total pages read: 88,000+ (May: 117,000+)

Top 10 Reviewers averages:
vel veeter (39 reviews, 3.74 stars, 308 pages)
badkittyuno (18 reviews, 3.50 stars, 319 pages)
Malin (17 reviews, 4.05 stars, 361 pages)
melanir (12 reviews, 3.18 stars, 319 pages)
alwaysanswerb (11 reviews, 3.45 stars, 312 pages)
bonnie (9 reviews, 3.77 stars, 401 pages)
Caitlin_D (9 reviews, 3.56 stars, 312 pages)
ingres77 (9 reviews, 4.05 stars, 333 pages)
Lollygagger (9 reviews, 3.67 stars, 257 pages)
scootsa1000 (9 reviews, 4.00 stars, 339)

Our monthly review breakdown (and leader):
Jan – 502 (vel veeter)
Feb – 431 (Classic)
Mar – 446 (vel veeter)
Apr – 392 (vel veeter)
May – 280 (vel veeter)

CBR Database:
14,788 reviews*
8,574  individual books reviewed

Top Reviewers of All Time:
Malin (903)
badkittyuno (883)
narfna (682)
bonnie (646)
alwaysanswerb (401)
Mrs. Julien (398)
Valyruh (364)
faintingviolet (360)
scootsa1000 (359)
Travis_J_Smith (353)

I have Goodreads data on 8% of reviews, sex info on 97% of authors, and the nationality on 80% of authors.

I’m still, of course, in the process of going back through CBR3, 4, and 5, along with various blogs for CBR1 and 2, not to mention the Pajiba reviews section of the mothership (though, I’ve only done a handful). I think I’ve got the total review counts for CBR4-9 (though I haven’t logged each review yet), and I’ve got most of CBR3 done. So my all time ranking is, I think, fairly accurate. Big changes to look forward to: badkittyuno might catch Malin this year, bonnie and narfna are racing for 3rd on the all-time list, vel veeter may crack the top 10 in his first year, and Caitlin_D has a chance of breaking in to the top 10, as well.

If anyone has suggestions for what else they want to see in the monthly stat round-up, just let me know. I’ve temporarily put the brakes on the Google Docs file for community edit.

*Last months review total was 19,000+, but my spreadsheet now has 14,788. I’m now freaking out that I’ve lost over 400 reviews.

As I started to read this, I was thinking, jeez, this is my 7th year participating…How sad that I’m not on the leaderboard. But now I am!

This may be……I don’t know. Prejudicial doesn’t seem like the right word….”weird” of me, but I like having the regulars in the all time leaderboard.

Travis J Smith and Valyruh were mainstays for awhile, but haven’t really been present the last few years (though, Travis does have a couple reviews this year).

It makes me feel better that my slow and steady reading and reviewing gets me somewhere, since our more voracious readers keep me out of the annual top 10, which I’ll admit has been a goal for me every year. But this year – there’s just no way I’m climbing that particular mountain.

I’m right there with you. I thunk I made it last year, but I don’t think I’ll did it again this year.

I miss Valyruh and all of the detective novels that got reviewed.

Guys, I only posted one review this month. I think my brain needs examination by a professional.

How many reviews behind are you?

I’m working on my 57th book read, but I’ve only posted 37 reviews. So 20 reviews, then. Easy math, but a daunting prospect. I’m stuck on a review for a book I finished in early MARCH.

In CBR6, I only fell behind by three reviews (I keep a list of unreviewed books).
          In CBR7, it was 12.
          For CBR8, it was 17.
So far, for CBR9, I’m behind by 8, and will probably finish another two books tonight. Most of these will never be reviewed. I just can’t keep up.

My OCD won’t let me not review things. If I count it in my total read over on Goodreads, I HAVE to review it.

I think in all these years I’ve only not reviewed 3 books. I have to review, its part of my process now.

When I get into a situation like that, I do one big review dump.

I’m 5 reviews behind right now, and am already thinking about combining them.

A book isn’t ‘read’ til I post a review. 3 behind max or I get twitchy.

I had my count at 12…

Of course I’m at Zero for June because my husband bought a Nintendo Switch and all I do now is play Mario Kart
