Save Yourself

June 30, 2017 by emmalita 1 Comment

About a year ago, I asked what comics I should look for during my first comic book store shopping experience. ElCicco suggested Princeless, an Eisner Award nominated series published by the company her husband co-owns. At the time, I had a certain amount of dollars and a long list, so Princeless didn’t make it to the register. It’s been on my list ever since. I was delighted to find I could read Vol. 1 for free on ComiXology Unlimited. I highly recommend seeking it out.

Princess Adrienne has always thought the practice of locking princesses in towers guarded by dragons is dumb. When she is drugged by her father and locked in a tower on her 16th birthday, she is pissed. She is far more concerned with her dragon’s digestive health than the welfare of the knights who come to rescue her.

One day, while looking for her quill, Adrienne finds a sword. A plan is hatched with her dragon, Sparky, to free them both from roles they have been forced into, and then quest to free other princesses in towers. Sparky had not realized that her true purpose is to be slain by a knight.

Having rescued herself, Adrienne realizes she needs her own armor. I am so glad that I had just read Red Sonja.

I laughed so hard.

Issue 3 in this volume was nominated for 2 Eisner Awards in the 8 – 12 category. It’s a comic you could feel good about reading with kids. Or, you could jus go get it and read it for yourself.
