Cyclopes enter the Percy-verse!

July 3, 2017 by bonnie Leave a Comment

I had such fun reading the first Percy Jackson book that I decided to keep on, once I figured out how to work Hoopla when no internet connection was present (THAT was its own ordeal, trust me. Add to it that I spent 48 hours without internet, and there *might* have been a panic about lack of access to books or the news. Obviously, I made it through just fine, as you can see from this review). My perception of the series continues—it’s fun and enjoyable, and I am learning more about Greek mythology than I can remember in school.

Adventure always seems to find Percy Jackson in a rough spot, and at his new school, he cannot escape his problems. His new friend Tyson has been keeping him company, but he’s not popular in his new classroom. More worrisome is the disappearance of his friend Grover and the dreams he keeps having of Grover in a wedding dress. Finally, there’s the prophecy that everyone keeps alluding to. Percy and Annabeth go to seek the Golden Fleece in order to save a poisoned tree at Camp Half-Blood, but they get a lot more than they bargain for, particularly when their paths cross the treacherous Luke’s.

There’s not a whole lot more I can add to this that I haven’t already said, except: CYCLOPS! I enjoyed reading The Odyssey in college, and there are absolutely allusions to it throughout this direct book. Of course, while there is a villainous creature, an unexpected hero rises among the ranks.

Cross-posted to my blog.
