Family Drama and a Blue Demon Cat

January 12, 2018 by Jen K 2 Comments

Wildfire picks up right after White Hot, and sees Nevada grappling with how the events of the previous book will affect her and her family.  At this point there is no denying the fact that she is a Prime, and her lost grandmother is on her way to reclaim Nevada into her family.  White Hot ended with revealing Catalina’s abilities to readers, and with two Primes in the family, Nevada and her family can register as their own House which would provide a certain amount of protection in exchange for becoming involved in the highly political world of the Houses.

While all that is going on, Nevada also takes up a new case to help Rynda, Rogan’s former fiance, find her missing husband.  Between her missing husband, Rynda, an empath, and her mother’s recent death due to her activities in White Hot, Rynda is not having the best of times at the moment, which causes some jealousy and insecurities on Nevada’s part, especially now that she is involved in the world of Primes where marriages are decided based on magical suitability.

I was a bit less interested in the main case of this novel, mostly because I wasn’t as interested in the summoning magic of the main antagonist but enjoyed all the other parts.  The investigation reveals that Brian, the kidnapped husband, has a tendency to let others handle all his problems, so it’s hard to care much about what happens with him.  Fortunately, the novel spends most of its time on the other parts of the story, such as Nevada and Grandmother Tremayne, her cousin Leon and his struggle to figure out his ability, match making for Primes, and the larger conspiracy. The kidnapping is related to trilogy’s overarching story since Rynda’s mother had important information as a prominent member of the cause.

While these books were marketed as a trilogy, I hope to see more novels take place in this universe.  The trilogy comes to a satisfying conclusion but also leaves enough unresolved where it could definitely pick back up – maybe with one of the younger sisters as the focus or continue from Nevada’s perspective, I would be happy with both.  I have certain suspicions about certain identities and would love to see if I am right or wrong!

I loved the blue demon cat. Ilona Andrews have such imagination when it comes to creating interesting and original creatures in their stories.

I’m kind of refusing to believe, for now, that this is actually the end of the series. There is a lot more they can do in this universe. But I also understand they got behind in their writing schedule awhile back and may want to officially wrap up Kate Daniels (or something?) before making any promises to continue Hidden Legacy.
