Ineffable

February 5, 2018 by octothorp 3 Comments

Ive been trying to read down the pile of unread books in my library, and this necessitated eating my literary vegetables, so to speak – the stuff that’s not fun or that I’ve put off for one reason or another until I forgot why I bought the damn thing to begin with – some of which weren’t even nutritious, to torture the metaphor.

It was cake time, muffukkas.

This was my eleventy billionth reading of this book and it never fails to make me smile.  Hell, the first time I read it I laughed out loud, and it’s HARD to make a reader laugh aloud. (It was the Hells Angels renaming themselves after non alcoholic lager and such after meeting Hell’s angels, if you were curious.)

I’m not summarizing the plot, or sharing much more of the book, because it is a delight I don’t wish to spoil any further.  I’m sure the filmed adaptation will be lovely, but if you’re looking forward to it and haven’t read the book, fix that. This is great for Terry Pratchett fans, great for Gaiman fans, and a delightful brisk read for fans of, well, books. Eleventy billion stars, one for each time I’ve read this thing.

I haven’t read this in probably a decade and I almost forgot how much I absolutely adorable. I think I’m ready for some cake myself. Great review!

Somehow, I’ve only read this once. I remember laughing out loud, too (for me, it was the cassette/Queen joke).

A sweet book, if I remember right.

I’m assuming you read Anansi Boys – what’d you make of that one?
