The third instalment of the Hidden Legacy series, Wildfire sees our male cover model finally pop a t-shirt on while on the inside Nevada investigates the kidnapping of a House Prime and enjoys her newly romantic relationship with Rogan. Unfortunately for her immediate happiness, however, it’s not only looking like the kidnapping is part of the conspiracy that’s been threatening to overthrow society throughout these books, but the kidnappee’s wife is Rogan’s ex, Rynda, who’s not above trying to win him back to her side.
Meanwhile, faced with the threat of her evil grandmother coming after her family, Nevada has decided it’s time to declare herself in an attempt to become House Baylor, which will buy them three years free of Victoria Tremaine’s interference. This move will also throw a non-obstacle into her relationship with Rogan, as it’s highly unlikely they’ll be a genetic match for Prime Children, putting their fledgling romance into jeopardy even though she doesn’t care about all that and Rogan’s told her he doesn’t care either.
As easy and entertaining a read as its predecessors, Wildfire did disappoint me slightly by including one of my personal pet peeves and having other women throw themselves at Rogan in front of Nevada (as we apparently can’t be really sure that Rogan really loves her until he’s publicly picked her over other women) as well as overemphasising the relationship (and its non-obstacles) over the case that mostly drives the plot. But those are minor nitpicks really, and I’ve enjoyed the series enough to know that I’ll come back to Ilona Andrews again soon.
