Atlanta is being rocked by waves of magic, each stronger than the one before, and the city is going crazy. Meeting a vulnerable young girl living on the streets whose mother disappeared during one of the waves, Kate finds herself trying to work out just what exactly magic-crazed shifters, witches and Celtic gods have to do with it all. Of course, she also gets to rub up a lot against the Leader of the Pack (I seem to be incapable of calling him the Beast Lord without sniggering) and discover what kind of nonsense passes for flirting in his world.
Fast paced and entertaining, even if I did have to eyeroll occasionally what with the super sexually charged gang of hyenas, and the horny Saiman, and the super horny Bran, and the chicken soup passing Curran (which, if you believe the hyenas, means he’s super horny for Kate). On the other hand, I loved some of the touches when it came to the witches and to the outskirts of the city which we’d not come across before.
We also get some more hints about Kate’s backstory, what with her dropping some Russian, a mention of her dad apparently being some king of Big Deal, and her history of testing as an electrum (whatever that is), and I’m still intrigued to find out exactly what this all means (probably that she’s stronger than any other being in the series, if this genre’s track record is anything to go by).
This series has so far been much needed brain candy at a very difficult time, and I’m glad to know there’s more of Kate out there for me to try to relax with when needed.
Ooooo, yes, this series is great brain balm. The next two books are among my favorites of all books and much reread.

I started thinking about them, and now so am I. Dammit. The final book in this series is coming out this summer, so I was planning a reread anyway.
