This is how you end a trilogy!

April 14, 2018 by thewheelbarrow Leave a Comment

I had a journey with this book.  It first became available in October but I had several other books checked out, so I returned it and put it on hold again.  I got it again in December right before a vacation, which in years past was great timing, but with two children, both under three at the time, vacations are no longer the time to get some reading accomplished.  After this vacation, I had to return home earlier than the rest of my family and so I paced the airport with my headphones in listening to the book at double speed trying to finish it before the deadline.  It’s the greatest downside to library audiobooks, they deactivate exactly 21 days after being checked out and I didn’t want to wait a few months to finish half of it.  Well, it deactivated with only 9/15 parts complete and I didn’t get it back again until March.  I had to listen to a few hours over again to watch back up to where I was and I found that the delay really took away from the enjoyment I would have experience if I completed it all at once.

Ok. So The Stone Sky is a great demonstration of how to complete charter arcs over a trilogy.  I can’t think of a single loose end that remains.  I’m a big fan of authors who have the guts to kill characters and I love N.K. Jemisin.  I find I have trouble suspending my disbelief when every single speaking-role character survives the entire story.  I respect the hell out of authors who can kill their creations.  That’s all I’ll say about that.

If you read the first two, you will not be disappointed.

I'm a 35yo father of a little girl who will run the world someday and her sweet little brother. I finished my first cannonball last year and I want to work harder on the writing this year. View thewheelbarrow's reviews»
