Cats, cats and more cats (Did I mention cats?)

July 6, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Lisa Ann Scott and Heather Burns have created a new magical series. When Brooke saves a fairy from her cat, that fairy must grant her seven wishes. But everyone knows you should be specific in your wishes and be careful about what you wish for. When she wishes for 100 cats, little does Brooke realize that sometimes less is more!

Too Many Cats book one in the Wish Fairy series is straight forward. Adults will realize right off how Brooke’s wish will go wrong. They will know what surprises will be around the corner. However, the aged six to eight crowd will be fascinated by these new friends and will learn right along with Brooke and her friends.

While this book is mostly “traditional girl story” (there are fairies after all and the main characters are all female) there are a few modernisms too: Brooke is black. There is no mention of a father, just her mom and her best friend is white. Or I should say Brooke just happens to be black, her friend white and her mom is the only parent in Brooke’s life mentioned so far. And none of these facts are made a “big deal of” as they just are. This is a refreshing change. It is always pleasant to just make things normal. No need to point out that “something is different here.”

Reviews of these series has it likened to the Enchanted Pony Academy (also by Scott) and Rainbow Magic. But any series with fairies, magic and friendship should fit the bill as well.
