Time was a face on the water, and like the great river before them, it did nothing but flow.

I’ve been in the car a lot lately, driving around for work. And while I love my satellite radio, I love my audible account even more. I’m listening to all of my favorite books, and it totally makes the time spent in the car seem less like work. This morning, I finished The Wind Through the Keyhole (and started The Wolves of the Calla!), and I must say, I enjoyed it much more this time (my second time reading and reviewing…the first was for CBR4!). Where the falling angel meets the rising ape

He’s had a near-death experience! We all have. It’s called ‘living’…. Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather was a Cannonball Read book exchange gift to me from Malin. On my wish list, I had indicated that I hadn’t read anything by Pratchett, and Hogfather is a delightful introduction to his world, aka Discworld. It’s a twisted and sometimes demented place, which means it’s quite a lot like the world we inhabit, except for the magic, gnomes, talking animals, etc. The action here is set on Hogswatchnight, which is […]

3.5 stars. It’s always nice to start the year off with something good, so I’m pleased to report that this one actually mostly lived up to the hype. I’ve been meaning to read Leigh Bardugo for years and finally got around to it. Six of Crows ended up being great company to ring in the new year with. Essentially, this book is about a gang of criminals pulling off a high stakes heist. Picture a teenage, fantasy version of Ocean’s Eleven and you’re close. Except […]

It’s such a relief when a childhood favorite stands the test of time.

January 1, 2018 by Mrs Smith Reads 7 Comments

I probably read A Wrinkle in Time for the first time when I was about eight or nine years old, and I have to say that for a book born the same year I was, it seems to have aged quite well. I was pleased to remember so much about the characters and the main story, though as a shy, young misfit myself, somewhat like Meg Murry, I imagine her personality resonated with me quite a lot at the time. As an adult, and a parent now, […]
