Nope. Nope. Nopenopenopenopenopenope. I can’t think of a better way to tell you all about this book. It’s just… bad. And not entertaining bad, or annoyingly bad, or even stupidly misogynistic bad. It’s just… bad. The characters are trite. The writing is bland and full of telling not showing. The plot is rote and any ‘surprises’ are telegraphed from page one. The book also contains one of my pet peeves in novels about shape shifting humans where human physiology is assumed to be the same […]
The Traffic is the Least Believable Element
White Hot is the second in the Hidden Legacy series. It was much delayed, and probably better for it. The cover is awful. Ignore the cover. The book is good. The first book, Burn for Me, was good too, but this one is better. After the events of Burn For Me, Nevada Baylor has decided to learn more about magic and her own magical talents. She hasn’t had to worry about romance because Mad Connor Rogan took her at her word and has left her alone. A […]
If Princess Leia got corrupted and Vader was absent, would you still like Luke?
Ink and Bone (first novel) was really interesting with a great concept and an interesting group of characters. Book 2, Paper and Fire, was also pretty good, since it added backstory and complexity to several characters and to the narrative scenario overall. I don’t like the third installment of the series, Ash and Quill. The first half is filler, scheming around but nothing really being said or done. In fact, some of the key characters become irritating or questionable to the point of unlikable. The […]
Some moments are beyond imagination.
Okay, I’m back. I haven’t lost my mind, or my grip on reality. Everything’s fine. It took me a long time to read this final installment of “The Dark Tower” series. Sure, it’s super long, but it’s shorter than a few of the other installments. I just truly didn’t want it to end, so I stretched it out, found distractions and procrastinations, and delayed the inevitable. This final chapter is less full of revelation, and doesn’t so closely ressemble a conspiracy theorist’s corkboard with pushpins […]
