From multiple attempts, I stab at thee!

This is my CBR White Whale for two reasons. One: I don’t remember when I bought this book, but I’m certain I wasn’t pregnant and the kid is one and a half, so it’s been a minute; two: this beast is nearly 1000 pages.  I’m a sucker for cheap books and this was dozens of short stories about time travel – my favorite sci-fi variation – for 2.50 at a local bookstore. I had to buy it, especially because the authors included in this short […]

“Sisters, sisters There were never such devoted sisters”

Another book that has potential and then just fizzled out for me was The Yin-Yang Sisters and the Dragon Frightful. It was another book that I thought pages had stuck together, I had missed something or if the unfinished copy had pages go out of order. I could tell that Nancy Tupper Ling had put in a lot of effort into her text, but sadly, it was lost on me. I just could not get into it. It was Andrea Offermann’s illustrations that made the […]

CBR10Bingo: Brain Candy (BINGO!) Before this year, I wasn’t much of a YA reader. I saw myself as more of a Serious Reader, too serious for the frivolity of YA lit. And while my favorite books are still likely to be denser and heavier literary fiction and hard sci-fi, I’ve come to enjoy the balance that YA brings to my library with the quicker read and lighter tone even when the subject matter isn’t so light. Thus, the Brain Candy square was always going to […]

When the Supporting Characters Become More Intriguing than the Main Character

October 28, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

After seven novels, the Throne of Glass series has concluded.  Overall, I enjoyed the novel and the series and basically devoured this book in less than three days.  And it was long! I also may do a reread now that they are all released though I apparently should have started it before this novel.  I couldn’t quite remember who all the supporting characters were and how they came into play – which makes sense because while it’s only been a year since the last Throne of Glass novel, that one was […]
