“It’s no good choosing your first husband from a school for evil geniuses. Much too difficult to kill.”

This book! This is why Goodreads need to give us half stars. This is not a three star book! Three stars, for me, is like, okay I guess I liked it, grudgingly. Or maybe I liked it but there something fundamentally wrong with it. Or maybe it’s really well written but it’s just not my thing. And four stars is: I liked it a lot and it was great! Nothing to complain about, but not my favorite, would read again. And this book fits into […]

First, a note of thanks to crystalclear for not wanting to bash my head in for how long this book sat on my desk, unread. It is her copy and I am a bad friend for not returning it to her in a timely fashion. Beware of friends who overcommit on their reading capacity, we’re a terrible liability to your own reading. :) That being said, this is the final book of the Finishing School series, a prequel of sorts to The Parasol Protectorate series […]

I had a harder time getting into this book as I have with other series buy the same author. I did eventually start to like the characters once they got to the school and some of the events leading up to the arrival were better explained. The encounter with flywaymen made little sense at first given that I had no idea what they were and the other characters hadn’t been especially well detailed at this early point. The explanation provided during the attack just didn’t […]

Growing up is a dangerous thing to do

Waistcoats and Weaponry, the third installment of Gail Carriger’s Finishing School Series, is a bit darker and more mature than the preceding novels.  Don’t be alarmed – as in the previous books, there is still delightful dialogue and whimsical witticisms to be found on every page! We begin aboard the floating dirigible school, and we immediately feel sorry for dear Professor Braithwope.  I do hope we see more of him in the future, and that he regains more of himself!  Sidheag receives a message from […]
