It’s not easy being teen

January 14, 2019 by ElCicco Leave a Comment

I hadn’t originally planned to review all three of these books together, but after reading them, I found that they had more in common than just their author. American Born Chinese, Boxers and Saints all center on teens who are dealing with issues related to their identity and how to live within the community in which they find themselves. Do you adapt to others’ expectations, try to remake the community as you wish it to be, or leave it for something new? American Born Chinese […]

And so I disliked a book written by Gene Luen Yang.

I’ve read all of Gene Luen Yang’s comics, so it was a no-brainer that I would be reading his version of Superman. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it. Actually, I’ve never really enjoyed a Superman comic, so this may be on me. But before we get to the actual comic, a complaint. WTF, why is the DC comics universe so messed up??? Actually, in all honesty, it’s not all of them, we have a ton of Hellblazer and Jack Kirby comics and all manner of things my husband owns that I have little to NO interest in, but there are 18 books […]

Just makes me want to re-watch the series, again.

Oh, man. I love that these comics exist, and are an official continuation of the story. Avatar: The Last Airbender is my comfort food. I watch it when I’m sick and it’s so happy and lovely and colorful. And look, I know it’s a kid’s show, but UGH IT’S SO GOOD. I also love Legend of Korra, and am super looking forward to the comics continuation of that show that’s supposed to be coming out soon. With all that said, this wasn’t my favorite of these […]
