I badly need to catch up with writing reviews, but don’t really have the inclination to write long and individual reviews for books that were mostly ‘meh’. I sometimes pick up thrillers when I need a break from fantasy, and this review covers several that I’ve read since the early summer, in order that I read them. In some cases I have to cast my mind back rather a long way–and some definitely made an impression more than others. Most of these I read pretty […]
I don’t want to go into those Dark Places either
cbr10bingo…White Whale I accidentally bought this on my Kindle on March 6, 2015. I don’t think I had even read Gone Girl yet at that point, but I think I had heard about Ms. Flynn. Read for CBR 10 Bingo: Award winner. It won the “New Blood Fiction Dagger” and “Ian Fleming Steel Dagger” from the 2007 Crime Writers Awards. I don’t know how to feel about this book. I think like Gone Girl, in which Gillian Flynn makes an improvement over her first novel here for a deeper tale, I will appreciate it more as time goes on. But I’m having a hard time discerning what the point Flynn is trying to make about women and parenting, aside from that […]
