Aquillia's Reviews:

I waited to make this my first CBR11 review. It was worth the wait.

This book was the one Christmas present I asked for. I’d been dying to read it for ages because (full disclosure) I ‘know’ the author from online from way back when we were both teenagers, and I wanted to buy it to support her (and also because I couldn’t get it through my local library). Well, through the vagaries of online shopping, it only just came into my hands. Even though I live in Europe, my husband had gone for the American edition and I’m […]

Post-Cannonball roundup

December 30, 2018 by Aquillia 3 Comments

I actually read more books this year than I have since I can remember. I just don’t have the energy to review them all for various reasons. Last year I did a round-up of all the books I didn’t properly review, and I’d like to do the same now (I’m only counting this review as 1 book read, because even though it’s lots of books, it’s not a full review for each and there’s no overarching theme like I usually do in my multi-book reviews). My first ever Cannonball! I’m super proud of this, as I’ve been doing CBR for a few years (off and on) and have never managed more than a half-Cannonball before. I’m going to try to achieve this goal again next year. Now on to my final proper review of the year. Natasha Pulley’s The Watchmaker of Filigree Street is a lovely, lovely book. It sits at the crossover between historical fiction and fantasy, but just barely steps over the line into the fantastical. It is […]

Fast paced fantasy with a great premise

December 25, 2018 by Aquillia 1 Comment

I’ve been waiting to write this review for a while, partly because I wanted to review the Shades of Magic Trilogy together and I’ve only just read the third one. (And partly because I’m better at reading than writing reviews…) This series was my introduction to V. E. Schwab, although I’d encountered mentions of the trilogy for a while now in the fantasy world. Part of the reason I finally read them was my reading challenge for the first half of the year: to read […]
