The Girl in the Painting

May 24, 2015 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

I hadn’t heard of Jojo Moyes before reading The Last Letter From Your Lover back in April, but she is fast approaching a must-read author for me. Part One of The Girl You Left Behind begins in Occupied France in late 1916; Sophie Lefevre is doing her best to keep her family safe from the German soldiers who traipse through her hotel bar when a new Kommandant begins to take an interest in her and a portrait her husband painted of her before the war. Rising Above the Cliches or The Wrong Book Worked Out

So here’s the thing. I accidentally read the wrong Jojo Moyes for my book club; you can’t blame me because the covers all look really similar. My book club had chosen The Girl You Left Behind but somehow I ended up reading the eBook version of Me Before You from my local library. And I enjoyed it. The Last Letter from your Lover is not typically a book I would pick up; at first glance it seemed a bit too “romance” versus just “chick lit” but badkittyuno borrowed it from our mother, who borrowed it from a friend so it was harmless to give it a try. Considering I ignored my husband throughout Jon Stewart and Jimmy Fallon for the last two night I think I liked it. Written in three parts, Last Letter tells the story of Jennifer Stiriling and Anthony […]

Surprisingly well-written romance

March 30, 2015 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

My mom borrowed this novel from a friend of hers, and when I saw the author’s name, I snagged it for myself. I’ve never read anything by Jojo Mayes, but I remember the reviews of her book Me Before You being really good, so I thought I’d try out this one. I really enjoyed The Last Letter from Your Lover, despite the fact that it was wedged a little bit more into the romance genre than I typically read, and I’m going to have to get a copy […]
