It took me a while to read this one since each chapter is self contained so it was easy to read a chapter between other books, and sometimes the break was necessary given how many chapters ended on a similar dark note. Each chapter in this book deals with a different animal, the myths we still see in pop culture about many species today, and the historical development of some of those views and how the natural sciences have evolved over the years. Make It and your knowledge Grow
Overall, I like this book. There is nothing wrong with it. I just do not think it is something as an adult I will reread. I can see kids enjoying it for the flap surprises and the engaging colors of the illustrations. The fact it is a see/learn about colors and habitats book/an educational book as well means it would be great for a preschool classroom as well as the toddler set. Make it Grow: Bring Nature to Life by Lifting the Flaps by Debbie […]

The fact that the character is not mentioned if they are male or female allows it to be an “anyone story.” The illustrations are amazing sweet and simple but wonderfully detailed, too. I would assume by the traditionally stereotypical clothing and hair, that it is a father and son story. Therefore, it would make a nice Father’s Day read-together. However, looking at the cover again, I could easily say this was an older brother or even […]
Backyard Fairies
Backyard Fairies is more of a 4.5 rating as I would have liked “something else” (though I am not sure exactly what that would be. Perhaps I would have liked it to be a tad bit longer. I do enjoy the illustrations as they are unique. They have a realistic quality but in a slight unrealistic way. The contradiction of this does make them slightly magical. Phoebe Wahl has been the girl in this story. I would also go as far to say, that she […]
