Not as good as book one, but still worth reading.

October 9, 2018 by narfna Leave a Comment

I am sad to say that this book was not as good for me as the first one. I still loved the characters a lot, and there were still all these great, small moments peppered throughout the book. Lara Jean’s family continues to warm my heart. Peter continues to be a huge doofus. Lara Jean is a fashion icon. Some spoilers below, so be warned. I just thought this book was a little weak. Where the first book had at the center of it the whole […]

Project: Catch Up On Review Backlog, review #2 out of 11 I didn’t like this one as much as My Lady Jane (mostly because it wasn’t as funny), but overall I still had a really fun time listening to it. I mean, really, the standards were ridiculously high, first of all because I do think the first book was just plain funnier, but also because a) They had to live up to that all that funny and maybe the story they were telling this time […]

As always with a Becky Albertalli book, I flew through it. I haven’t read an entire book in a night in quite a long time, but I felt compelled to keep going even though it got pretty late. And then I figured I might as well just finish it. No regrets here! A good time was had. I do think this is my least favorite of her three books, so far, though. Surprisingly, it has nothing to do with Leah herself. Leah is a tough […]

Pride and Prejudice and Practical Magic

January 12, 2017 by Emperor Cupcake 5 Comments

When I first discovered historical fantasy (or mannerpunk, or whatever you want to call it), I felt the way I imagine a person does when stumbling upon a hitherto unknown sexual kink. Oh wow, I did not know this was a thing, but I LIKE it! Marissa Doyle’s debut novel, Bewitching Season, is a light and frothy confection that (if I’m being honest) wasn’t quite as good as I remember it. This book and its sequel, both published in 2009, follow the stories of the […]
