Good, eh, okay, and sweet

January 4, 2019 by crystalclear 1 Comment

So I was inspired by my lovely book exchange gifts to attempt to read through all of the Pride and Prejudice variations I currently own.  I say “attempt” because it’s a lot.  I started off with A Very Austen Christmas, an anthology of Christmas stories, because it’s seasonal I guess.  And the wifi is broken at my house, so that means more reading at home instead of noodling around on the internet! “Her Christmas Gift” by Robin Helm This is a Pride and Prejudice story, […]

All Aboard these two travelin’ tales

All Aboard! Time to hop on the Snake Train! Trust me this is not like that infamous plane. These are nice, colorful, cute (later sleepy) snakes. They have fun going around the track, having adventures and finally, end their day curled up in their dens. Kathryn Dennis has a simplistic story and art to make your toddler want to go on their own train trip. The Twelve Days of Christmas in New England (also in a hardcover version) is just the Twelve Days of Christmas song with New England features. Fun, but a limited audience. I read the board book size. This is not a bad way to present the song. However, the extras at the end (Vermont you ski and Maine you eat lobsters. Yes, a simplistic explanation, but that is the idea: the highlights are hit) might be a bit too much for the younger audience. In the […]

Christmas Spirit? We got it right here!

December 19, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I Got the Christmas Spirit by Connie Schofield-Morrison and illustrated by Frank Morrison has a lot to like. And a lot of things that you might not be as crazy about. The illustrations of Morrison are lovely. They are quirky and filled with details. And the colors! Bold and sassy and quirky and as spunky as the little narrator herself. They introduce you to a city setting for those who might not be familiar with it and show the setting a lot of kids do […]
