I will admit I was prepared to dislike this. I read a couple of reviews that gave the plot away, and it made me angry and nervous (more on this below). I shouldn’t have *really* worried. As she did with that whole Secret Wars mess, G. Willow Wilson manages to write an event tie-in story (in this case, Civil War II) but still keep it readable for people like myself who aren’t planning on reading the rest of it, and to simultaneously keep the story […]
Venturing into Marvel Comics for the First Time
I have to admit I’ve never really followed Marvel comics much (or DC for that matter), but I picked up Patsy Walker aka Hellcat! Hooked on a Feline on the recommendation of a friend. This was a fun introduction to a character I didn’t know and a world I barely know. The story follows Patsy trying to find a job and normal life in NYC. She also does some standard superhero villain busting on the side (mostly on her own). She has a hard time […]
Everybody Sucks But Me
I have enjoyed Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye series tremendously. I enjoy Fraction’s Clint Barton much more than the Barton in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Volume 3, though, focuses on the other Hawkeye, Kate Bishop. Kate is 21 and from a wealthy family. She may be young and brash, but she’s a great Hawkeye, especially when paired with Clint Barton. Unfortunately, Clint is wallowing in his own feelings and Kate decides she can’t watch anymore. So she takes The dog, flips off daddy and heads for the […]
“GGWWWRGHH.”
A lot of Star Wars fans were nervous when Marvel/Disney took over Star Wars comics from Dark Horse. For years, DH had told some amazing stories in the Star Wars universe through the medium of comics. It was unclear whether Marvel would live up to Dark Horse’s standards, or if it would just publish tie-in garbage. While I am only a casual Star Wars fan, I am a true comic book nerd. I am happy to report that Marvel is doing great with Star Wars. They […]
