Three Revolutionary War romances.

May 8, 2018 by narfna 2 Comments

This book is actually three novellas, all written under the umbrella premise of Eliza Hamilton collecting stories about her husband, Alexander, in service of recording his legacy. I enjoyed all three of the novellas, but I definitely enjoyed Courtney Milan’s the most (not really surprised there). I’m also not really surprised that I enjoyed Alyssa Cole’s the least, as I’ve not had great luck with her books in the past. But overall, this is a solid trio of romances, set in a time period I […]

Hard to get into at first but then packs a whammy at the end.

I actually pre-ordered this and had it downloaded on release day, but never got around to reading it. Turns out there was no rush, it wasn’t the best work I’ve read by these authors, but I did end up seeing the point of it by the end. I finally got around to it because I’m about to start book seven in this series (!) when I finish my current audiobook, and I wanted to have this read by then. For almost all of this novella […]

Seven novellas, all are good, two are excellent.

Seven Stones to Stand or Fall is a 500ish page collection of (mostly) novellas set in Gabaldon’s Outlander universe. All but two of the novellas were previously published in short story anthologies. The remaining two are new. I do not recommend picking up this collection if you aren’t already a fan of the books. Most of the stories would be entertaining enough to read, but you’re not going to get optimal enjoyment out of them without the context of the main series (or the Lord John […]

The least terrible thing I’ve read from Terry Goodkind in years.

Well, this was kind of clumsy, but I actually liked it? I’ll be honest, I’ve had such poor experiences with the last couple of Sword of Truth books, I expected more of the same here, and went looking for it. But this ended up being pretty harmless, and by the end, it actually had me engaged. Well, as engaged in this series as I have ever been, (which, by the way: engagement peaked in book one). So: haven’t enjoyed anything in this series this much […]
