This was probably one of the most romcom-y books that Jojo Moyes has written (or that I’ve read, anyway) and I will admit I loved every sweet minute of it.
“The law of probability combined with the law of large numbers states that to beat the odds, sometimes you have to repeat an event an increasing number of times in order to get you to the outcome you desire. The more you do, the closer you get. Or… basically, sometimes you just have to keep going.”
On the one hand, we have Ed. Ed has a lot of money, but he’s screwed up royally at work and has found himself in a big pot of legal trouble. He’s also single, geeky, and a little sad. Then on the other hand, we have Jess. Jess, a single mother raising her math genius daughter and her useless ex’s son, has no time for fun and no money for it anyway. All of these characters end up in Ed’s car on a trip to Scotland, and hilarity (and romance! and intrigue!) ensure.
Very romcom-y, with some road trip humor mixed in. Jess has a big dog — he farts a lot. But really — such a cute story. I loved the characters, even when they did slightly stupid things. And Moyes has an uncanny ability to write non-annoying children. I loved both of Jess’s kids — both the quirky genius and the floundering goth. This will make such a cute movie — how has Moyes not sold it yet?!?
Seriously. How are NONE of her books movies yet!
We’re getting Me Before You next summer, but I can’t imagine why other works of hers haven’t been optioned.
Ah you beat me to it. Yes, it comes out next year — starring the Mother of Dragons!
OK I’m good with Finnick being Will Traynor but Patrick was so awful why did they cast Neville Longbottom!
I didn’t realize Longbottom was cast as Patrick… I think that might work though.
