Book Roundup

December 17, 2018 by lumenatrix 1 Comment

I have a few books I’ve been putting off reviewing simply because I don’t have much to say about them. That isn’t necessarily because I didn’t like them, I just can’t come up with a lot of words for them. So, I’m going to do a bit of a “at a loss for words round up” and get these in the bank. I’ll put the link to my favorite in the Amazon link box. Little Fires Everywhere (4 Stars) by Celeste Ng Pearl and Maya […]

I Did It

I really can’t believe I’m reviewing my 52nd book of 2018, because I never thought I’d get here. 2018 was a slog, y’all. The funny thing is, I thought it was because I hadn’t read that many great books this year, but that wasn’t true at all–I could barely find a one least favorite for the CBR wrapup post because I had enjoyed almost everything I read. When I was finished, I wasn’t sure what the point was, but weeks later, I’m still thinking about it. I was initially drawn to it because I remembered Scootsa1000’s review, and that she had really liked the crab. Funny. Surreal. Foul mouthed talking crab. […]

My favourite book this year

December 14, 2018 by Aquillia 2 Comments

Before this week, if you had told me that one of my favourite fantasy books I’ve ever read would be a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin of all things, I would have laughed in your face. But that is one way to describe Naomi Novik’s Spinning Silver, her follow-up to Uprooted (which was far and away one of my favourite books from a few years ago). Tonally, Spinning Silver is similar to Uprooted. Both feature a non-traditional European fantasy world, in that the Polish grounding for Uprooted and the Slavic folklore for Spinning Silver […]
