“Never give up on your dreams, and never let anyone tell you that what you love is inconsequential or useless or a waste of time. Because if you love it?…That is never a waste of time.”

Sigh. I really wanted to love this quirky and cute little book. And for a little while, I did. A modern, geeky take on Cinderella? A love story where the interaction takes place mostly over text? Cons and Cosplay? It all sounded great. The first two-thirds of this story worked for me. Elle lives with her horrible step-mother and horrible twin step-sisters in the house where she grew up. Her mother died when she was really young and her father died a few years ago, […]

A very cute retelling

December 11, 2017 by badkittyuno 1 Comment

Aw, this was just adorable. Our modern day Cinderella is Elle Wittimer, who works at her stepmother’s pumpkin-shaped food truck and dreams of escaping to a better life. Her deceased father was a huge fan of a show called Starfield, and Elle sees her chance when they announce a cosplay contest at a comic convention. Our Prince Charming is the star of the new Starfield reboot, and he too feels dissatisfied with his life as a soap opera star and teen heartthrob. “And if we’re both looking up […]

Every time she’d find a minute That’s the time that they begin it Geekerelly, Geekerelly

I love a good retelling, for example I really enjoyed Alex, Approximately early this year, but Geekerella felt trapped by its fairy tale template. Danielle “Elle” Wittimer’s mother died when she was a toddler and her father, who remarried when she was a child, passed away while she was a teenager. Elle and her father were very close; in particular they bonded over an old Sci-Fi TV show called Starfield which is now undergoing a movie reboot. Her step mother is evil (a little too evil to be remotely realistic), […]

“That is why this universe is impossible: because all the good things are impossible to keep. The universe always takes them away…”

This Cinderella story is super cute. It’s told from two perspectives: Danielle/Elle and Darien. Elle lives with her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. Darien starred in a teen soap and is about to take his first major movie role as Carmindor in a remake of the sci fi show Starfield. Elle and her father used to watch Starfield together, and he even created a convention for the show, ExcelsiCon. She is less than pleased that Darien was cast in the iconic role, and writes a fairly […]
