The least terrible thing I’ve read from Terry Goodkind in years.

September 7, 2017 by narfna 2 Comments

Well, this was kind of clumsy, but I actually liked it? I’ll be honest, I’ve had such poor experiences with the last couple of Sword of Truth books, I expected more of the same here, and went looking for it. But this ended up being pretty harmless, and by the end, it actually had me engaged. Well, as engaged in this series as I have ever been, (which, by the way: engagement peaked in book one). So: haven’t enjoyed anything in this series this much […]

Does *anyone* who’s read this book think Richard is a hero?

I’m about to get all up in this book’s craw for some terrible choices on the part of the author, and the part of his characters, but I would like to state up front that I am not opposed to characters making choices that are morally questionable. If characters–especially “the good guys”–don’t mess up every now and again, we usually find them flat or boring. What I AM opposed to is characters making morally questionable choices without either the characters or the author bothering to […]

Definitely the worst of these books yet. I almost one-starred it, but the main thing that was making me want to do that was semi-addressed by the end, so I don’t think this series has quite reached the point of untenable badness just yet. (And I want to save the one star, because I’m pretty sure there is much worse to come.) Lately I’ve been forcing myself to write reviews immediately after finishing books, but I made an exception with this one because a) I needed […]

Welcome to the next installment of WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST READ. Pull up a chair, and have a seat.

So before we get to the explication of weirdness, a couple of things of note that might lend context to this review: 1. With the exception of 2013, I’ve read one of these books a year. I can’t handle more than one in a 365 day period. I think I skipped last year because I ran out of time and also I didn’t care. 2. I spent all of last weekend finally watching season one of Legend of the Seeker, the TV show made by Rob […]
