Cuddle up Hedgie Lovers there is a new adventure in town!

October 18, 2018 by BlackRaven 2 Comments

The Snowy Nap is very classic Jan Brett. You will either LOVE IT or will be “This is okay.” There is little to no “middle ground” to the liking or disliking of the book. However, even if the story does not grab you, as for many people and many of her books, the best part of the story really are Brett’s illustrations. They are worth the price of admission! The story is sweet: our hero Hedgie does not want to take a winter nap this […]

A lovely old-fashioned fantasy for kids (Bingo Square: Birthday!)

October 18, 2018 by Aquillia Leave a Comment

A little while ago, I read Diana Wynne Jones’ Howl’s Moving Castle after seeing the Miyazaki film. It was pretty much nothing like the film, but I adored it anyway. So I picked out Castle in the Air on my Overdrive app for a light read, expecting more of the adventures of Sophie and Howl. It wasn’t quite what I expected either, but was still a sweet, lovely story perfect for a kids (or, y’know, any adult). Sophie and Howl don’t feature much until the end, for Castle […]

Some more of Toby’s rather complicated family relationships are revealed

October 17, 2018 by Malin 1 Comment

Spoiler warning! This is book 12 in an ongoing series, it is NOT the place to start. There will be minor spoilers for previous books in the series, as it’s impossible to discuss this book without mentioning things that have happened in earlier books. If you’re interested (and you should be, this is one of the best urban/paranormal fantasy series out there right now), start with book 1, Rosemary and Rue.  Faerie knight and champion, and former private investigator October “Toby” Daye is not doing so well. […]

When the Snow Whispers to you

October 17, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

A Whisper in the Snow, due to some slightly choppy language, caused me to have to stop and start a few times. The text is rich, but I think it might have been translated. Therefore, making the (I am assuming German) original text to English not an easy transition for some people’s ears. This makes it only a rating of 4.5. This is because of two main points. The first is that Ferdun Oral’s illustrations are amazingly fabulous pieces of art. They are items that […]
